The H-1B cap online registration period is fast approaching! US employers will need to register in advance to be eligible for the H-1B cap lottery for FY 2024. The registration period opens at noon EST on March 1, 2023, and closes at noon EST on March 17, 2023. The H-1B program allows for the temporary employment in the United States of foreign workers in occupations that require the application of a body of highly specialized knowledge and a bachelor’s degree or higher in the specific specialty, or its equivalent.
Within the scope of the online registration, USCIS requires US employers to pay a $10 fee and complete an electronic registration for each foreign employee for whom they intend to file an H-1B cap-subject petition. Only those who register will be entered in the H-1B lottery and will be eligible for selection.
Please note that the H-1B category is subject to annual numerical limitations of 65,000 (bachelor’s degree) and 20,000 (US master’s degree and above). Those who are selected will be notified by March 31, 2023. Last year, USCIS reported that it received 483,927 H-1B registrations and initially selected 127,600 registrations projected as needed to reach the FY 2023 numerical allocations.
With the simple online process and minimal registration fee there is every reason for US employers to explore registering to try and be part of this year’s H-1B cap lottery. Let us know if you want to learn more about the H-1B process and requirements.
