Effective immediately, the US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) will begin screening aliens’ social media activity for antisemitism as well as monitor for the physical harassment of Jewish individuals as grounds for denial when adjudicating immigration benefit requests. This affects applicants for lawful permanent resident status, foreign students and aliens affiliated with educational institutions linked to antisemitic activity.
The USCIS has been clear on the subject, noting on its social media that it “will NOT tolerate terrorist sympathizers.” Consistent with President Trump’s executive orders on the subject, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) plans to strictly enforce the law “to the maximum degree, to protect the homeland from extremists and terrorist aliens.. “ This includes those who support antisemitic terrorism, antisemitic ideologies and antisemitic terrorist organizations such as Hamas, Palestinian Islamic Jihad, Hezbollah, or Ansar Allah, otherwise known as “the Houthis”.
Based in Israel, we at Schear Immigration feel it is common sense, and more importantly, that immigration to the US is a privilege, not a right. We welcome and respect the US government’s efforts to make America safe for its citizens and non-citizens alike.
